Prevent or Reverse Diabetes Starting Today
If you have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes you can try to reverse your diabetes or prevent it starting today. Diabetes is becoming a worldwide epidemic and the only thing that has changed in the past years compared to many years ago is our easy access to fast, quick junk foods.
We had to prepare a meal once, whereas today we can drive though an easy accessible ‘drive-thru’ and order high carb, high sugar, high GI foods.
No wonder many health care professionals are considering diabetes an epidemic.
People of all ages can suffer from this condition and it no longer only has to do with a family history.
The disease is on the rise because of today’s diet and lifestyle. This is good news, because you can do something about it. Type 2 diabetes is a lifestyle disease, so changing your diet and lifestyle is what reverses diabetes.
So many of our health problems today are due to diet and poor nutrition. Mind you it isn’t anyone’s fault. We live in good times where abundant food is not a problem for most people. Most of us can ‘go shopping’ when the food larder is low.
The difference is once upon a time…when diabetes wasn’t such a worldwide concern…we had to grow all our own vegetables and prepare our family meals from scratch, whereas today it is easy to buy a pre-packaged meal to save time. This is also why so many young children are diagnosed with diabetes today…it’s their diet and nutrition provided for them at home.
Diabetes Prevention
If you have read any of my articles you will know I love the quotes, prevention is better than cure…or that food is thy medicine. The reason I do is that they are both so true, especially when it comes to preventing or reversing diabetes!
While the main group of people who are affected with this condition are still people with a family history of diabetes, more people without a family history are finding that they will now have to struggle with this problem.
It is thought that children are more prone to suffering from diabetes because of the foods they eat but also it’s a combination of inactivity. The combination of the two is creating a slew of obese young people.
The same can be said for adults as I said earlier, busy lifestyles prevent many adults from eating a healthy diet and this is wreaking havoc on their body. From fast, high fat, high carbohydrate meals, to processed and boxed meals with very few vegetables, people are eating less of the good foods they need and filling their bodies with preservatives, sugar and starch.
You might be wondering why this is or what sort of diabetes treatments are being done to help these people, but many health care professionals feel that one of the best diabetes treatments is to prevent it!
Steps to Reverse Your Diabetes
So are you ready to reverse your diabetes, starting today?
Diet – If you know your blood sugar levels are high and you want to lower them naturally, the best place to start is with your diet. When you reduce the amount of sugar, especially refined sugars such as those you will find in most foods like cookies, cakes, donuts and many other foods, you will find that your body is better able to make it’s own insulin and maintain healthy levels.
Reduce Carbs – You should also cut out the amount of carbs or simple carbohydrates you consume. Foods with no nutrition, such as white bread products, only serve to expand the waist line and cause blood glucose levels to spike. When your body burns these carbs, they turn to sugar and that’s a problem.
- You need to be eating a healthy diet with foods such as whole grains, lean protein and fresh fruits and veggies for best results.
It’s also important that you learn to properly monitor your blood glucose levels so you can stay as healthy as possible. Insulin drops and peaks in the body can cause adverse side effects such as dizziness, fatigue and even seizures, so you need to make sure that you properly monitor your insulin levels.
There are steps for you to take to prevent or reverse your diabetes. So you can either try yourself or talk to your doctor about the best diabetes treatment options available to you.
